Crochet Granny Square Cardigan Pattern

Crochet this beautiful granny square sweater project using a light weight or sport yarn and various size hooks to achieve the correct gauge. This is a fantastic scrap project. Inspirations for colors can be found online with a “Granny Square” search. This is a vintage coat sweater inspired pattern. The sleeves and construction are very unique making this a pattern that is more for intermediate crocheters than beginners.

Sizes range from Medium 40” wide to 2X – 52” wide

This is not recommended for a beginner crocheter.

Directions are given for Medium, with Large, X-Large, and 2X in Brackets. For example, M (L, XL, 2X).

Light Weight (or DK) Yarn:
Color A - 1 3/4oz, 161yds (50g, 147m)
Color B - 3 1/2oz, 322 yds (100g, 294m)
Color C - 5 1/4oz, 483yds (150g,441m)
Color D - 7oz, 644 yds (220g, 588m)
Color E - 10 1/2oz, 966 yds (250g, 882m)

Additional Materials:

Yarn Needle and Scissors
Needle and matching thread - for buttons

To create the Vintage Buttons:
1 1/2" (38mm) Flat Round Metal Filigree - 6
1/2" Plastic Buttons - 6 (for securing Filigree Buttons)
18" Lightweight jewelry chain, cut into three 6" lengths
Jewelry pliers or scissors (to cut chain)

Crochet Hook:
F-5 (3.75mm) [G-6 (4.00mm), H-8 (5.00mm), I-9 (5.50mm)] or size needed to obtain gauge.
Hint: It is recommended you work up the chosen size gauge swatch to the correct measurement.
