Sugar 'n' Spice Baby Afghan

Easy Skill

Size: About 32 inches wide by 46 inches long.

Materials: Sport Weight Yarn: White - 30 oz, Nile Green - 5 oz, Baby Blue - 5 oz, Baby Pink - 3 oz, Maize - 3 oz

Crochet Hook: Size F-5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: Each Motif measures 3½" square.

Abbreviations

beg - beginning

ch - chain

hdc - half double crochet

dc - double crochet

lp - loop

rem - remaining

rep - repeat

rnd - round

sc - single crochet

sl st - slip stitch

sp - space

st - stitch

yo - yarn over

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

TO CHANGE COLORS

Work last stitch before color change to last step, with new color yo and pull new color through remaining loops on hook. Drop unused color to wrong side. Do not work over unused color.

COLOR MOTIF (Make 59)

(18 Green, 17 Blue, 12 Pink and 12 Maize)

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with color, ch 2, 8 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. (8 sc) Change color to White. DO NOT JOIN. MARK BEG OF EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2: Leaving Green yarn at back of work, with White, working in back loops only, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, (sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc) around; pick up Green, drop White to back of work. (16 sc)

Rnd 3: With Green, working in back loops only, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group; pick up White, drop Green.

Rnd 4: With White, working in back loops only, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group; pick up Green, drop White.

Rnds 5-6: Rep Rnds 3-4.

Rnd 7: With Green, working in back loops only, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.

WHITE MOTIF (Make 58)

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with White, ch 2, 8 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. (8 sc) DO NOT JOIN. MARK BEG OF EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2: Working in back loops only, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, (sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc) around; (16 sc)

Rnds 3-7: Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group.

At the end of Rnd 7, join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.

Assembly - use photo as guide

- Sew Motifs together neatly on wrong side, joining colors as follows:

R1: (Green, White, Blue, White) 3 times, Green

R2: (White, Pink, White, Maize) 3 times, White

R3: (Blue, White, Green, White) 3 times, Blue

R4: (White, Maize, White, Pink) 3 times, White

R5-R8: Repeat R1 to R4.

R9: Repeat R1.

BORDER

Rnd 1: With right side facing, join White with sc to back loop of any sc on long side, working in back loops only, sc closely around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group; join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each sc around; join. Finish off and weave in ends.

Block finish Afghan to measurements.
