Primrose Flower

 

Skill Level: Easy

 

Materials: This flower can be worked with any weight of yarn. Finer weights will create a smaller flower, and bulkier weights will create a larger flower. Use the hook size appropriate for the yarn you choose.
We used: Worsted Weight yarn and a size H-8 hook.

 

 

Abbreviations:

ch - chain

slst - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

tr - treble

 

Special Stitches:

Picot: Ch3, slst in 3rd ch from hook.

Cluster: Yo, insert hook into st, draw up a lp and pull through (3 lps on hook). Yo and pull through 2 lps. Yo, insert hook into same st, draw up a lp and pull through (4 lps on hook). [Yo and pull through 2 lps] 3 times.

Front Post Double Crochet: (fpdc): Yo hook, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated st, yo hook, pull up lp, [yo hook, pull through 2 lps] twice.

 

Center

Rnd. 1: With Yellow, ch2, 5sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with nslst to beginning sc. 5sc

Rnd. 2: [Ch5, slst in 3rd ch from hook, cluster, sc] in same st, *[dc, picot, cluster, sc] in next sc*, repeat from *to* 3 times, join with slst to first ch of beginning ch5, fasten off.

 

Petals

Rnd. 3: With Orchid, join with sl st to any sc on Rnd. 2, ch3 (counts as first dc), 8dc in same st, *9dc in next sc*, repeat from *to* 3 times, join with slst to beginning dc. 40dc

Rnd. 4: Ch1, *[sc, 4tr] in same st, 4tr in next dc, sc in next dc, [(4tr in next dc) twice, sc in next dc] twice, sl st between next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Fasten off, weave in ends.

 

Leaves

Rnd 1: With Green, ch5, slst in 5th ch from hook to form ring.

Row 2: Ch1, 7sc in ring. 7sc

Row 3: Ch1, turn, sc in each sc across. 7sc

Row 4: Ch1, turn, 2sc in first sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2sc in next sc. 9sc

Row 5: Sc in first 4 sc, fpdc around post of next sc on previous rnd, sc in next 4 sc. 9st

Row 6: Ch1, turn, 2sc in first sc, sc in next 9 sc, 2sc in next sc. 11sc

Row 7: Sc in first 5 sc, fpdc in next fpdc on previous rnd, sc in next 5 sc. 11st

Row 8: Ch1, turn, sc in each st across. 11sc

Row 9: Repeat Row 7. 11st

Rows 10-11: Repeat Rows 8-9. 11st

Row 12: Ch1, turn, sc in each sc across, working a scdec over first 2 and last 2 sc. 9sc

Row 13: Ch1, turn, sc in first 4 sc, fpdc in next fpdc on previous Row, sc in last 4 sc. 9st

Row 14: Repeat Row 12. 7sc

Row 15: Ch1, turn, sc in first 3sc, fpdc in next fpdc on previous Row, sc in last 3 sc. 7st

Row 16: Repeat Row 12. 5sc

Row 17: Ch1, turn, sc in first 2 sc, fpdc in next fpdc on previous Row, sc in last 2 sc. 5st

Row 18: Repeat Row 12. 3sc

Row 19: Ch1, turn, holding last loop of each st on hook, sc in next sc, fpdc in next fpdc of previous Row, sc, yo, pull through all 3 loops on hook, fasten off.

 

2nd Leaf: attach yarn in ch-5 ring, repeat Rows 2-19 of first Leaf. Weave in ends, tack leaves in place to back of flower at center.
