Large Sunflower

 

Skill Level Intermediate

 

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn in Gold and Brown, Size H-8 hook.

 

Size: Approximately 6 inches across.

 

 

 

ABBREVIATIONS

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

st - stitch

 

 

LARGE SUNFLOWER

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Gold, ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 12 sc in ring. (12 sc) DO NOT JOIN. MARK BEG OF EACH ROUND.

Rnds 2-3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around. (18, 27 sc)

Rnd 4: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around. (36 sc)

Rnd 5: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around. (45 sc)

Rnd 6: Sc in each sc around. DO NOT FINISH OFF. Work continues in Rows.

 

First Petal

Row 1: Sc in next 3 sc. (3 sc) (Mark next stitch.) Leave remaining sts unworked.

Note: Ch 1, turn at beginning of each Row.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across.

Row 3: Skip first sc, sc in next 2 sc. (2 sc)

Row 4: Skip first sc, sc in next sc. (1 sc)

Row 5: Sc in only sc, sl st along sides of rows to marked st. DO NOT FINISH OFF.

 

Next Petal

Row 1: (Sl st, ch 1, sc) in marked stitch, sc in next 2 sc. (3 sc) (Mark next stitch) Leave remaining sts unworked.

Note: Ch 1, turn at beginning of each Row.

Rows 2-5: Rep Rows 2-5 of First Petal.

Repeat Next Petal until 15 petals are made. After 15 petals, finish off and weave in ends.

 

CENTER OF LARGE SUNFLOWER

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Dark Brown, ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 1, 12 sc in ring; join with sl st to first sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 2: Turn, (ch 4, sl st in next sc) around. (12 lps)

Rnd 3: Turn, press loops to back, working in same sc as previous Rnd, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around; join. (18 sc)

Rnds 4-5: Rep Rnds 2-3. (27 sc)

Rnd 6: Rep Rnd 2. (27 lps)

Rnd 7:Turn, press loops to back, working in same sts as previous Rnd, sc in first sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around; join. (40 sc) Finish off and weave in ends.
