Easter Cross Appliqué

Skill Level: Easy Skill


Size: Cross – about 4½” tall

Materials: Sport Weight Yarn
Small amounts of the following: White (W); Turquoise (T)

Additional Materials: Yarn needle; Hot/Craft Glue

Crochet Hook: Size F-5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 9 sts = 2 inches; 5 rows = 2 inches

JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

Special Stitches

French Knot: Bring threaded needle up from wrong to right side of work at A. Wrap yarn twice around needle. Tighten the twists and insert needle again at A. Pull needle with firm even pressure until the yarn slides through the wrapped yarn, making a knot that lies on the right side as shown below.

HORIZONTAL BAR

Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at long edge, with W, ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook, (sc in next ch) across. (14 sc) Finish off and weave in ends.

Vertical Bar – Top

Row 1: With right side facing, join W with sl st to 7th sc of Horizontal Bar, ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next sc (8th sc of Horizontal Bar).(2 sc) Leave remaining sts unworked.
Rows 2-5: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. At the end of Row 5, Finish off and weave in ends.

Vertical Bar – Bottom

Row 1: With right side facing, working in bottom of foundation ch, join W with sl st to 7th ch (opposite 2nd sc of Top Bar), ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc in next ch (opposite 1st sc). (2 sc) Leave remaining sts unworked.
Rows 2-11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. At the end of Row 11, DO NOT FINISH OFF.
Edging: With right side facing, working around outside edge of cross, * ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook (picot), skip next row (or st), sl st in next row (or st); rep from * around; join. Finish off and weave in ends.

FLOWER

Starting at center, with T, ch 1 (center chain), (ch 4, sl st in center ch) 5 times. Finish off leaving long end.

Finishing USE PHOTO AS A GUIDE
- Using long end, sew Flower to center of Cross. With W, embroider a French Knot in center of Flower.
