Beginner Skill

 

Size:4-1/2" (11.25 cm) long

 

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn – 1 ounce, red felt, 2 - 10 mm moveable eyes, 12" (30 cm) ribbon 1/4" wide, cardboard 3" (7.5 cm) wide, and glue.

Crochet Hook:  Size I-9 (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

 

Gauge: 4 rnds and 4 sc = 1" (2.5 cm)

 

Abbreviations

ch - chain

rnd - round

sc - single crochet

st - stitch

 

Rnd 1:Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join, mark ends of each rnd. (6 sc)

Rnd 2:2 sc in each st around. (12 sc) .

Rnds 3-16: Sc in each st around. At the end of Rnd 16, finish off.

 

Finishing

Pom-pom:Wrap yarnaround long side of cardboard 100 times. Slip yarn off cardboard and firmly tie a 12" (30 cm) piece of yarn around middle. Leave yarn ends long to attach pom-pom. Cut loops at each end and trim ends. Attach pom-pom to right side Rnd 1 of Cover.

Weave Ribbon through bottom edge of Cover. Place Cover over Broom handle end. Tie bow with ends of ribbon. Center and glue eyes as shown in picture. Cut small curved piece from felt and glue under eyes for mouth.
