Halloween Cat

Easy Skill

Size:About 1½" tall, 3½" wide.

Materials:Crochet Cotton Thread Size 10 - Black (35 yds), small amounts Orange and White; Needle; Small amount of Stuffing; 7 mm Moveable Eyes (2).

Crochet Hook:Steel crochet hook # 7

Gauge: 8 sc and 8 rows = 1 inch.

Abbreviations

beg - beginning

ch - chain

CC - contrasting color

dc - double crochet

hdc - half double crochet

lp - loop

MC - main color

rem - remaining

rep - repeat

rnd - round

sc - single crochet

sl st - slip stitch

sp - space

st - stitch

tr - treble crochet

yo - yarn over

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

CAT - Head and Body

Rnd 1:Starting at head, with Black, ch 2, 6 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. DO NOT JOIN. MARK BEG OF EACH RND.

Rnd 2:2 sc in ea sc around. (12sc)

Rnd 3:(Ear) * (Sc, hdc, dc, 2 tr, dc, hdc, sc) in next sc, remove hook from st, insert hook in first sc worked, draw up dropped lp, ch 1 *, sc in next 4 sc; rep from * to * once more for other ear, 2 sc in next 6 sc. (18 sc)

Rnd 4:(2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around. (24 sc)

Rnd 5:(2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around. (30 sc)

Rnds 6-11:Sc in ea st around.

-Stuff Head as you work the following decrease Rnds.

Rnds 12-14:Decreasing 6 sc evenly spaced, sc in each sc around. At end of Rnd 14 there will be 12 sc.

Rnds 15-18:(Body) Increasing 6 sc evenly spaced, sc in each sc around.

At end of Rnd 18 there will be 36 sc.

Rnds 19-28:Sc in ea sc around. (36 sc)

Rnd 29:Decreasing 6 sc evenly spaced, sc in each sc around. (30 sc) Finish off and weave in ends.

Bottom

Rnd 1:With Black, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), DO NOT TURN, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc)

Rnd 2:Ch 3, dc in first dc, (2 dc in next dc) around; join. (24 dc)

Rnd 3:Ch 1, DO NOT TURN, sc in first dc, sc in next 2 dc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; join with sl st to first sc. (30sc) Finish off leaving long end.

Finishing

- Stuff Body. Using long end of Cat Bottom piece, sew bottom to Body of Cat.

- Glue eyes to front of face.

- With White, embroider Nose and Whiskers with straight stitches.

Tail

Using 2 strands of Black thread held together, ch 20, sc in 2^nd ch from hook, (sc in next ch) across. Finish off leaving long end.

- Using long end, sew Tail to body.

Neck Tie

With Orange, ch 75. Finish off and weave in ends.

- Tie in a bow around neck of Cat.
