Halloween Little Witch

Easy Skill

 

Size:About 5" high (including hat) by 3" wide.

 

Materials:Crochet Cotton Thread Size 10 - Black & Orange; Thread Needle; Cardboard, Plastic Wrap and Fabric Stiffener; Craft Glue, White Pipe Cleaner; Small Broom, 7/8 inch Face Bead.

 

Crochet Hook:Steel crochet hook # 7

Gauge: 8 sc and 8 rnds = 1 inch.

 

Abbreviations

beg - beginning
ch - chain
CC - contrasting color
dc - double crochet
hdc - half double crochet
lp - loop
MC - main color
rem - remaining
rep - repeat
rnd - round
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
sp - space
st - stitch
tr - treble crochet
yo - yarn over

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

 

Stiffening Directions

Cut a piece of cardboard larger than the article to be stiffened. Cover the cardboard with clear plastic wrap.

Dilute fabric stiffener with water (half and half). Dip piece into mix and squeeze out excess.

Shape piece with wadded balls of plastic wrap.

Position piece on cardboard.

Allow to dry overnight.

 

WITCH DRESS

Yoke

Rnd 1:With Black, ch 1 (center ch), ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), 11 dc in center ch; join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc)

DO NOT TURN EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2:Ch 3, 2 dc in ea dc around; join. (24 dc)

Rnd 3:Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc; rep from * around; join. (36 dc)

Rnd 4:Ch 3, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc; rep from * around; join. (48 dc) DO NOT FINISH OFF.

 

Skirt

Rnd 1:Ch 3, working in back loops only of Yoke, dc in next 11 dc, skip next 12 dc, dc in next 12 dc; skip next 12 dc; join. (24 dc)

Rnds 2-4:Ch 3, (dc in next dc) around; join. (24 dc)

Rnd 5:Increasing 8 sts evenly spaced, dc around. Join. Finish off and weave in ends.

 

SLEEVES

Rnd 1:With right side facing, working in back loops of skipped sts of Yoke Rnd 4, join with sl st at underarm, ch 3, dc in next 11 dc; join.

Rnd 2:Working in both loops, ch 3, (dc in next dc) around; join. Finish off and weave in ends.

- Repeat for opposite arm.

 

YOKE RUFFLE

Rnd 1:With right side facing, working in front loops of Rnd 4 of Yoke, join Orange with sl st to any slp, * ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook; rep from * around; join with sl st in first st. Finish off and weave in ends.

 

BOW

With Orange, ch 55. Finish off and weave in ends.

Tie into bow. Sew to front of Dress.

 

WITCH HAT

Row 1:With Black, ch 2, 3 sc in first ch.

Row 2:Ch 1, turn, Sc in ea st across.

Row 3:Ch 1, turn, increasing at beg and end of row, sc across.

Rows 4-20:Rep Rows 2-3, ending with Row 2.

At the end of Row 20, there are 21 sts. DO NOT FINISH OFF.

 

Brim

Rnd 1:Bring opposite end around to hook, sc in first sc of Row 20, working in front loops only, sc in each sc around.

Rnds 2-3:Working in both loops, increasing 7 sts evenly spaced, sc in each sc around.

Rnd 4:Ch 5, * skip next st, sc in next st, ch 4; rep from * around; join with sl st to first ch of beg ch-5. Finish off and weave in ends.

- Turn Hat to wrong side, sew sides together. Weave in ends. 

 

Finishing:

- Follow directions for stiffening.

- Tie a knot in the middle of pipe cleaner. Push 2 ends through top of head bead. Push ends through center ch of dress Rnd 1. Extend ends out through dress sleeves leaving a 1" end. Cut off excess. Fold pipe cleaner ½" from edge to form hands.

- Using glue, attach Hat to head bead.
