Lace Stockings

Easy Skill

Size: 7½" wide x 18" long

Materials:Worsted Weight Yarn: 4 ozs White (W). Small Satin Roses on a string; Yarn Needle. 

Crochet Hook:Size G-6 (4.25 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

Special Stitches
Double Crochet Decrease (dc dec):
Keeping last loop of each st on hook, dc in next 2 sts, yo and pull through 3 loops on hook.

STOCKING
Rnd 1:
(Right Side) Starting at top, ch 48, taking care not to twist chain, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 1, sc in same st as joining, skip next 2 ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch, skip next 2 ch, * sc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch, skip next 2 ch; rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc. (8 Shells)

DO NOT TURN EACH RND. 

Rnd 2:Ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch 2), sc in 2nd ch-1 sp of next shell, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, dc in next sc, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch-1 sp of next shell, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, * dc in next sc, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch-1 sp of next shell, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, rep from * around; join with sl st to first dc. (8 dc)
Rnd 3:Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch-1 sp, * sc in next dc, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch-1 sp, rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. (8 Shells)
Rnds 4-20:Rep Rnds 2-3 ending with Rnd 2.
Rnd 21:(Heel Opening) (Mark join of Rnd 20) Ch 24 (mark 12th ch), skip 3 dc (4 shells), sl st in next dc (mark this st), ch 1, sc in same dc, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch-1 sp, * sc in next dc, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch-1 sp; rep from * twice more, sc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch, * skip next 2 ch, sc in next ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch, rep from * twice more; join with sl st to first sc. (8 Shells)
Rnds 21-36:Rep Rnds 2-3 ending with Rnd 2.

At the end of Rnd 36, fasten off leaving long end.

- Using long end, gather last round tightly and sew toe closed.

Heel
Rnd 1:
With right side facing, join W with sl st to 12th ch (marked ch), ch 3 (counts as first dc), working inunused lps of ch of Rnd 21, dc in next 7 ch, (dc dec) twice, working in Rnd 20, skip next dc, dc dec (in next 2 ch), * skip next sc, dc in next ch-1 sp, skip next sc, dc in next 2 ch, dc in next dc, dc in next 2 ch; rep from * twice more, skip next sc, dc in next ch-1 sp, skip next sc, dc dec (in next 2 ch), skip next dc; working inunused lps of Rnd 21, (dc dec) twice, dc in next 8 ch; join with sl st to first dc. (40 dc)
Rnd 2:Ch 3, dc in next 5 dc, (dc dec) 4 times, dc in next 12 dc, (dc dec) 4 times, dc in next 6 dc; join. (32 dc)
Rnd 3:Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, (dc dec) 4 times, dc in next 8 dc, (dc dec) 4 times, dc in next 4 dc; join. (24 dc)
Rnd 4:Ch 3, dc in next dc, (dc dec) 4 times, dc in next 4 dc, (dc dec) 4 times, dc in next 2 dc; join. (16 dc) Finish off leaving long end.

- With wrong side facing, using long end, sew heel opening closed.

CUFF
Rnd 1:
With wrong side facing, working in unused lps of starting ch, join with sl st to ch-lp opposite any sc worked in Rnd 1, ch 1, sc in same ch, skip next 2 ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch, skip 2 ch, * sc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] in next ch, skip next 2 ch; rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. (8 Shells opposite Shells of Rnd 1)
Rnds 2-7:Rep Rnds 2-3 (of Stocking) 3 times.

At the end of Rnd 7, finish off and weave in ends.

HANGER
With right side facing, join with sl st between Cuff and Rnd 1 at center back, ch 15, sl st in same sp as joining.  Finish off and weave in ends.

Finishing:

- String Roses along wrong side of Cuff, pulling roses to right side through the base of each Shell. (Alternatively, you can sew or glue individual roses to the base of each shell.)
