String of Hearts

BFC Pattern # 65

Skill: Easy

Size: Each Heart about 2½” wide by 2½” long.
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn: White (MC) Various Pastel Colors (CC)

Crochet Hook: Size G-6 (4.25 mm)

Special Stitches
Single crochet decrease (sc dec): Insert hook in next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, (two loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, draw through all three loops on hook.

HEART
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at lower tip, with CC, ch 2, 3 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. (3 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Rows 3-4: Ch 1, turn, (hdc, sc) in first st, [sc in next st] across to last st, (sc, hdc) in last st. (5, 7 sts)
Rows 5-6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. (7 sc)
Row 7: (First Curve) Ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sc. Mark next sc. (3 sc) Leave remaining sts unworked.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc dec (over first 2 sc), sc in next sc. (2 sc)
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across; sl st along side of last 3 rows, sl st in marked st, sl st in next sc. DO NOT FINISH OFF.

Second Curve
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in next 2 sc. (3 sc)
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, sc dec. (2 sc)
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. DO NOT FINISH OFF.

Edging
Rnd 1: Working in side of rows, work 7 sc evenly spaced to tip, (sc, dc, sc) in tip; working in side of rows, work 7 sc evenly spaced to Row 8, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc along side of First Curve, sl st in center sl st, 2 sc up side of Second Curve; 2 sc in each of next 2 sc; join with sl st to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Rnd 2: With right side facing, join MC with sl st to dc (center tip), ch 5, sl st in same dc, [ch 4, skip next sc, sl st in next sc] 7 times; working between curves, sl st in marked st, [sl st in next sc, ch 4, skip next sc] 7 times; join with sl st to first sl st. Finish off and weave in ends.

Assembly of String – use photo as guide
- Make as many Hearts as desired.
- Using MC, ch 50, * with right side of next Heart facing, sl st in top ch-4 lp of First Curve, ch 10, sl st in top ch-4 lp of Second Curve, ch 20; rep from * until all Hearts are joined; ch 50. Finish off and weave in ends.
