Crocodile Stitch

Skill: Intermediate

Materials: This stitch repeat can be worked with any size yarn. Use the hook size recommend for whatever yarn you choose. Worsted weight yarn is a good size to practice with.

We used: Worsted Weight yarn and a size H-8 (5.00 mm) hook.

Abbreviations
ch - chain
dc - double crochet
lp - loop
sc - single crochet
sl - slip
sp - space
st - stitch
yo - yarn over

Special Stitches
V-Stitch (v-st):
(dc, ch 1, dc) in same st or sp indicated.

Tips: Make initial chain loose.  The crocodile scales will stick out past the sides and make the fabric wider in later rows.  You may need to pull on the sides to straighten the cloth out when you do the first couple rows but as you continue the rows it will hold its shape on its own.

Ch a multiple of 4 + 5

Row 4: Turn, sl st in next dc, skip next ch-1 sp, sl st in next 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc over post of first dc of next v-st, ch 2, rotate anti-clockwise, 4 dc over post of next dc (same v-st), * skip next v-st, rotate clockwise, 4 dc over post of dc of next v-st, ch 2, rotate anti-clockwise, 4 dc over post of next dc (same v-st); rep from * across, ending with skip next v-st, sc in last dc.

Row 5: Ch 3, turn, * v-st in next v-st, v-st in next ch-1 sp (middle of scale); rep from * across, ending v-st in last v-st, dc in last dc.
