Poppy Flower - Free Crochet Pattern

 


 

Poppy

 

Skill Level: Easy

 

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn in Red and Black, size H-8 hook

 

Size: Approximately 5-6 inches across.

 

 

 

ABBREVIATIONS

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

hdc - half double crochet

sc - single crochet

 

Special Stitches

Half Double Crochet Decrease (hdc dec): Keeping last loop of each st on hook, hdc in next 2 sts, yo and pull through 3 loops on hook.

 

FLOWERS

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Red, ch 4, join with sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 1, 10 hdc in ring; join with sl st to first hdc. (10 hdc) DO NOT FINISH OFF. Work continues in Rows.

 

First Petal

Row 1: With right side facing, ch 1, 2 hdc in next 2 hdc. (4 hdc) Mark next hdc.

Note: Ch 1, turn at beginning of each Row.

Rows 2-3: 2 hdc in first hdc, (hdc in next hdc) across to last hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc. (6, 8 hdc)

Row 4: Hdc in each hdc across.

Rows 5-6: Hdc dec, hdc in next hdc across to last 2 hdc, hdc dec. (6, 4 hdc) At the end of Row 6, turn, sl st in next 4 hdc, sl st along sides of rows to marked st. DO NOT FINISH OFF.

 

Next Petal

Row 1: (Sl st, ch 1, 2 hdc) in marked stitch, 2 hdc in next hdc. (4 hdc) Mark next hdc.

Rows 2-6: Rep Rows 2-6 of First Petal. Repeat Next Petal until 5 petals are made. After 5 petals, finish off and weave in ends.

 

CENTER OF POPPY

Rnd 1: (Right Side) Starting at center, with Black, rep Rnd 1 of Poppy Flowers. (10 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, (2 sc in next hdc, sc in next hdc) around; join with sl st to first sc. (15 sc) Finish off and weave in ends.

 

Assembly - Using the photo as a guide, glue a Center to each Poppy.
