Plant Container Basket

Materials: Macra-Made acrylic yarn, main color (MC) and contrasting color (CC)

                Crochet Hook: size K

Beginning Circle

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sc) Do not join; mark ends of rnds.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 6 times. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc] 6 times. (24 sc)

Rnd 5: [sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc] 6 times. (30 sc) If circle is not large enough to cover bottom of plant container, continue with rounds, adding 1 additional stitch between 2 sc increases until circle is desired size.

Begin sides

Next round: Working through back loop only, 1 sc in each sc around.

Next round: Working through both loops, 1 sc in each sc around.

Continue working even.

To change to contrasting color: on last stitch of any round, with 2 loops on hook, make a slip knot with contrasting color and place on hook. Draw CC loop through remaining loops on hook to complete last stitch of round.

Continue working even, alternating between CC and MC as desired, until piece measures desired height.

To finish off: at the end of the round, join with a slip stitch to first stitch of previous round. Cut yarn, pull through and tighten. Use crochet hook to pull loose end through to wrong side of work.

To add contrasting color edge to bottom of container:

With open container facing and using CC, place a slip knot on hook. [Insert through any unused loop from round worked through back loop only. Yarn over and pull through unused loop AND loop on hook, slip stitch made.] Repeat around. To finish off, slip stitch to first stitch of round, cut yarn and tie ends. Weave in ends.
