Hydrangea - Free Crochet Pattern

Hydrangea

Skill Level: Intermediate

Materials: This flower can be worked with any weight of yarn. Finer weights will create a smaller flower, and bulkier weights will create a larger flower. Use the hook size appropriate for the yarn you choose.

We used: Worsted Weight yarn and a size H-8 hook.

Stitches Used:

ch - chain

slst - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

tr - treble crochet

Hydrangea:

Rnd. 1: Ch2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with slst to beginning sc, do not turn. 6sc

Rnd. 2: Ch3 (counts as first tr in this and following Rnds), dc in same st, ch3, *2dc in next sc, ch3,*, repeat from *to* 4 times, join with slst to first dc. 12dc, 6 ch-3sps

Rnd. 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next dc, 4sc in next ch-3sp, *sc in next 2 dc, 4sc in next ch-3sp*, repeat from *to* 4 times, join with slst to beginning sc. 36sc

Rnd. 4: Ch3, dc in next sc, ch3, skip next sc, dc in next 2 sc, ch3, *dc in next 2 sc, ch3, skip next sc, dc in next 2 sc, ch3, skip next sc*, repeat from *to* 4 more times, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3. 24 dc, 12 ch-3sp

Rnd. 5: Ch1, sc in same st, sc in next dc, 4sc in next ch-3sp, *sc in next 2 dc, 4sc in next ch-3sp*, repeat from *to* 10 times, join with slst to beginning sc. 72sc

Petals

Rnd. 1: First Petal, attach yarn with slst around post of first dc on Rnd. 2, ch3 (counts as first tr), 4tr around post, ch2, turn work, 4tr, ch3, slst around same dc, turn work, *slst in around post of next dc, ch4, 4tr, ch2 on same dc, turn work, 4tr, ch3, slst around post of next dc, turn work*, repeat from *to* 4 times, join with slst to first ch of beginning ch4, fasten off. 6 Petals

Rnd. 2: Second Petal, with Dk Turquoise, attach yarn around post of first dc on Rnd. 4, ch3 (counts as first dc), 4tr around post, ch2, turn work, 4tr, ch3, slst around post of next dc, turn work, *slst in around post of next dc, ch3, 4tr, ch2 on same dc, 4tr, ch3, slst around post of next dc, turn work*, repeat from *to* 10 times, join with slst to first ch of beginning ch3, fasten off. 12 Petals
