Halloween Cornstalk and Moon

Size: Cornstalk - About 6” high
Moon - About ½” wide, 3¾” high

Materials:Crochet Cotton Thread Size 10 -
Golden Yellow (50 yds),
¼" Satin Ribbon 12" long;
Thread Needle;
White Glue,
Cardboard,
Plastic Wrap,
Fabric Stiffener,
Flexible card.

Crochet Hook:Steel crochet hook # 7

JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

Stiffening Directions
Cut a piece of cardboard larger than the article to be stiffened. Cover the cardboard with clear plastic wrap.

Soak piece in fabric stiffener, squeeze out excess.

Position piece on plastic and pin in place.

Allow to dry overnight.

CORNSTALK
Row 1:
With Gold, ch 30, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next 22 ch, sc in next 5 ch. (28sts)
Row 2:Ch 25, turn, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 18 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch, working in front loops only of previous row, sc in next 5 sc, hdc in next 23 hdc.
Row 3:Ch 2, turn, working in back loops only, hdc in next 22 hdc, sc in next 5 sc.
Row 4-20:Rep Rows 2 and 3, ending with Row 2.

At end of Row 20, finish off leaving long end.

- Using long end, sew sides together.

Base
Rnd 1:
With Gold, ch 1 (center ch), ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), 11 dc in center ch; join with sl st to first dc. (12 dc)
Rnd 2:Ch 3, do not turn, dc in first dc, (2 dc in next dc) around; join. (24dc)
Rnd 3:Ch 3, do not turn, dc in first dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) around; join. (32sts) Finish off leaving long end.

Finishing

- Using long end, sew Base to bottom of Cornstalk.

- With Flexible Cardboard, make a cone 2½" tall, the shape of the Cornstalk.

- Insert cone into Cornstalk.

- Submerge the cornstalk 'stalks' in fabric stiffener and squeeze out excess. Bend and pin stalks out flat. Allow to dry.

- Wrap ribbon around Cornstalk below the 'stalks'. Tie in bow.

MOON
Row 1:
With Gold, ch 22, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, htr in next ch, 2 tr in next 2 ch, tr in next 6 ch, 2 tr in next 2 ch, htr in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch. Finish off leaving long end for hanging Moon in Tree. Weave in other end.
