Grape Chalkboard

Easy Skill

 

Size:About 12" wide by 15" long.

 

Materials:Worsted Weight Yarn.

Off-White - 3 ozs

Green - 1 oz

Purple - ½ oz

Yarn Needle

Hot Glue

Chalkboard - 8½" wide by 11½ long

"Kitchen" sign

 

Crochet Hook:Size I-9 (5.50 mm)

 

Abbreviations

ch - chain

dc - double crochet

hdc - half double crochet

lp - loop

rem - remaining

rep - repeat

rnd - round

sc - single crochet

sl st - slip stitch

sp - space

st - stitch

yo - yarn over

 

JOINING WITH SC

When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

 

Special Stitches

Beginning Popcorn (beg-PC):Ch 4, 4 tr in same st or sp indicated, drop lp from hook, insert hook from front to back in top of ch-4 (first tr), pick up dropped lp and pull through lp on hook.

Popcorn (PC):5 tr in st or sp indicated, drop lp from hook, insert hook from front to back in first tr made, pull dropped lp through.

 

RUFFLE

Rnd 1:(Right Side) With Off-White, ch 110, taking care not to twist ch, sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st as joining (first corner), * dc in next 22 ch, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch (corner), dc in next 31 ch *; (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch (corner); rep from * to * once more, join with sl st to first dc. (122 dc) DO NOT TURN EACH ROUND.

Rnd 2:Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, ch 5, * [sc in next dc, ch 5] across to corner, (sc, ch 5) 3 times in next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc. (134 ch-5 lps)

Rnd 3:Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 5, [sc in next lp, ch 5] around; join with sl st in first sc. (134 ch-5 lps) Finish off and weave in ends.

Rnd 4:With right side facing, join Green with sc to any ch-5 lp, ch 5, [sc in next lp, ch 5] around; join with sl st in first sc. (134 ch-5 lps) Finish off and weave in ends.

 

GRAPES(Make 4)

Row 1:(Right Side) With Purple, ch 7, 4 tr in 5th ch from hook (skipped ch count as first tr), drop lp from hook, insert hook from front to back in top of first tr (last ch of ch-7), pick up dropped lp and pull through lp on hook (beg-PC made), [ch 1, PC in next ch] twice. (3 popcorns)

Row 2:Turn, sl st in popcorn, sl st in ch-1 sp, beg-PC in same ch-1 sp, BUT insert hook from back to front (popcorn faces right side), ch 1, PC in next ch-1 sp (also insert hook from back to front). (2 popcorns)

Row 3:Turn, sl st in popcorn, sl st in ch-1 sp, beg-PC in same ch-1 sp (insert hook from front to back). (1 popcorn) Finish off and weave in ends.

 

Leaves  (Make 4)

Row 1:With Green, ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, [sc in next ch] across to last ch, 3 sc in last ch, working on other side of starting ch in unused lps, [sc in next ch] across to last ch, sl st in last ch. (13 sc)

Row 2:Ch 1, turn, working in front loops only, skip first sc, sl st in next 2 sc, ch 1, sc in next 5 sc, 3 sc in center sc of 3-sc group, sc in next 5 sc. Leave remaining sts unworked. (13 sc)

Row 3:Ch 1, turn, working in back loops only, skip next sc, sl st in next 2 sc, ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in next 3 sc, sc in center sc of 3-sc group, ch 12, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, [3 sc in next ch] across, sc in same center sc, sc in next 4 sc. Finish off and weave in ends.

 

Vine

Using double strand of Green, ch 124. Finish off and weave in ends.

 

Finishing - use photo as guide

- Glue right side of Ruffle to back edge of chalk-board.

- Glue Vine around outside front edge of board.

- Glue Grapes and Leaves at corners over vine.

- Glue Kitchen sign in place.
