Madison Shrug

Size: Instructions given fit 32"-34" (small).

Changes for 36"-38" (medium) and 40"-42" (large)

are in parentheses.

Materials: Light Worsted Weight Yarn
7 oz, 664 yds Crystal Cream; Yarn Needle

Patons Brilliant was used in model.

Crochet Hook:  Size F-5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 9 dc = 2"; 6 Rows dc = 2"

JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook. 

Design Note – Shrug is worked from cuff to middle. Each side is sewn together, and then a border is added around body opening of Shrug.

CUFF
Row 1 (right side):
Ch 50, (66, 80), ch 1, turn sc in each ch across. [49 (65, 79) sc]
Row 2:Ch 1, turn, working in BL only, sc in each sc across.
Row 3:Ch 1, turn, working in FL only, sc in each sc across.
Rows 4-8:Rep Rows 2-3 twice, and Row 2 once more.

SLEEVE
Row 9:
Ch1, turn, 2 hdc in in first 3 sc, * ch 1, skip next sc, hdc in next sc, rep from * to last 4 sc, ch 1, skip next sc, 2 hdc in last 3 sc.  [33, (41, 48) hdc]
Row 10 – 13:  Ch 1, turn, hdc in first 6 hdc, * ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * to last 6 hdc, hdc in last 6 hdc.
Row 14: Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first 3 hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc, * ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * to last 6 hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in last 3 hdc.
Row 15 – 18:  Ch 1, turn, hdc in first 9 hdc, * ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * to last 9 hdc, hdc in last 9 hdc.
Row 19: Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first 3 hdc, hdc in next 6 hdc, * ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * to last 9 hdc, hdc in next 6 hdc, 2 hdc in last 3 hdc.
Row 20 – 23:  Ch 1, turn, hdc in first 12 hdc, * ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 space, rep from * to last 12 hdc, hdc in last 12 hdc.
Row 24: Ch 2, turn, 2 dc in first 3 hdc, dc in next 9 hdc, * ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * to last 12 hdc, dc in next 9 hdc, 2 dc in last 3 hdc.
Row 25 – 44 (47, 50):  Ch 2, turn, dc in first 15 dc, * ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp, rep from * to last 15 dc, dc in last 15 dc. 

At end of Row 44 (47, 50), finish off.

Finishing:
- With Wrong Sides together, whip stitch two sides together at Row 44 (47, 50), to create one piece.
- Whip Stitch from Row 1 to Row 23 on each end to create each Sleeve.
- Turn Shrug so Right Side is facing out.
- Mark one side of opening as Neck, and other side of opening as Back.

Neck Edging:
Row 1:
 With Right Side facing, working along Neck Edge Only, starting at Row 24, join yarn with sc in Row end, sc in each Row end across to Row 24 at other Arm.
Row 2:  Ch1, turn, working in FL only, sc in next 6 sc, hdc in each sc to last 6 sc, sc in last 6 sc.
Row 3:  Ch 1, turn, working in BL only, sc in next 6 sc, hdc in each hdc to last 6 sc, sc in last 6 sc.  Finish off, and weave in ends

Back Edging:
Row 1:
 With Right Side facing, working along Back Edge Only, starting at Row 24, join yarn with sc in Row end, sc in each Row end across to Row 24 at other Arm.
Row 2:  Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, * skip next sc, sc in next 2 sc, rep from * to end.
Row 3:  Ch 1, sc in first 3 sc, * skip next sc, sc in next 3 sc, rep from * to end.  Finish off, and weave in ends.

Shell Edging:
Rnd 1: 
 With Right Side facing, join yarn with sc in first sc of Row 3 of Neck Edging, sc in each sc across Neck Edging, sc in each sc of Back Edging; join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in same sp as joining, sc in next 5 sc, * skip next sc, 3 dc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next sp, ch 1*, rep from * to * across to last 6 sc before Sleeve Seam, sc in next 12 sc, rep from * to * to last 6 sc, sc in last 6 sc; join with sl st to first sc.Finish off, and weave in ends.

Cuff Edging:
With Right Side facing, working in open lps of beg ch, join yarn with sl st in first ch, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch, * skip next ch, 3 dc in next ch, ch 1, skip next ch, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next ch, ch1, rep from * around; join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-3.  Finish off, and weave in ends.

Rep for other Cuff.
