Beginner Skill

Size: 8" square.

Materials: Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn,
1 ½ oz, 72 yd (42 g, 65 m); Yarn Needle.

Crochet Hook: Size G-6 (4.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: Rows 1-2 = 7" wide x 1 ½" tall.

JOINING WITH SC
When instructed to join with sc, begin with sl knot on hook, insert hook in st or sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through both loops on hook.

Special Stitches

Shell:5 dc in st or sp indicated.

Row 1:Loosely ch 30, dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch, * skip next 2 ch, shell in next ch, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch; rep from * twice more. (3 shells)
Rows 2-10:Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), turn, dc in next dc, shell in center dc of next shell, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, * dc in next dc, 5 dc in center dc of next shell, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * once more, dc in last dc.

Border
Ch 3, turn, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in first st, dc in each st and ch sp across to last st, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in last st, * working in ends of rows, (2 dc in next row, 3 dc in next row) 5 times *; working in unused lps of starting chain, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in first ch, dc in each ch across to last ch, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in last ch; rep from * to *; join with sl st to first dc. (116 dc) Finish off and weave in ends.
